ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. - Teams searched Rocky Mountain National Park for a ranger who was last seen leaving for a patrol in the park's backcountry.

The ranger, who has not been identified, was last seen Friday leaving a trailhead in the park's northern section, park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson said.

He was supposed to finish at another trailhead but never radioed in to report his location, as is customary, Patterson said.

No one has been able to contact the ranger by radio but the radio's battery could be dead, Patterson said.

The ranger is an experienced mountaineer and emergency medical technician in his fourth summer working at the park, Patterson said.

About 25 rangers, park staffers and rescue workers aided by a helicopter and dogs planned to resume their search Sunday.

Rick, 166.350 is the primary East side of the park repeater which you can receive in most North Metro areas but I am not aware of any online feed.

Jeff Christensen Hasn't Been Seen Since Friday

ESTES PARK, Colo. -- Rocky Mountain National Park Service colleagues said there's every reason to be hopeful Monday morning, as searchers resumed the effort to find a ranger who's been missing since Friday.

Co-workers last saw Jeff Christensen of Fraser on Friday, at the Chapin Pass Trailhead off Old Fall River Road. The 31-year-old was planning to start a backcountry patrol, but never contacted park staff that evening -- and didn't show up for his shift on Saturday.

Some 50 searchers, two helicopters plus rescue dogs have been looking for Christensen.

Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson said it's tough for crews to be looking for one of their own. But she described Christensen as fit, capable and well-trained -- and said the weather has been good -- all reasons for crews to remain optimistic.

Christensen is an experienced EMT and has served on the Winter Park Ski Patrol for the past seven years.

Park officials are asking for help from visitors who might have seen Christensen in the Mummy Range area on Friday or Saturday to contact the park at (970) 586-1204 to help determine where he might have been seen last.

Search Continues for Missing Park Ranger at Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park staff continue their search today for a
park ranger that was last seen by his co-workers at 11 a.m. at the
Chapin Pass Trailhead off Old Fall River Road on Friday, July 29. Jeff
Christensen was planning a backcountry patrol to the Lawn Lake
Trailhead that evening. He did not contact park dispatch that evening
and did not arrive for his shift on Saturday.
Today, approximately 100 people are involved in the search efforts for
Jeff. Efforts continue to focus in the Mummy Range area where he was
last seen. Last night search leaders studied maps to determine the
areas they felt had been thoroughly covered and those that needed to be
searched further. Two helicopters remain committed to the search. There
are three dog teams from Larimer County Search and Rescue and two from
Front Range Rescue Dogs. A specialized team from other National Park
Service units in the Intermountain Region are in the park to assist
with managing search efforts.
Searchers will continue to intensify their efforts in high
probability areas in the Mummy Range and expand further north to Hagues
Peak and Mummy Mountain. Today's search area covers roughly 26 square
miles with extreme elevation. Much of the expanded search area will be
covered using helicopters. Searchers continue to focus on steep
hazardous terrain along the east side of Jeff's intended route of
travel. There are several likely areas that people might typically
descend to Lawn Lake and the Lawn Lake Trail that we will continue to
search.
The Mummy Range is a remote, high altitude, rugged area which
includes Mount Chapin, Mount Chiquita, Ypsilon Mountain and Desolation
Peaks. There are few designated trails in the area and hiking mainly
occurs cross country.
Jeff is 31-years-old and is an experienced mountaineer. He is
extremely fit and capable of covering long distances in a short period
of time. Although Jeff was not intending to spend the night he had a
backpack with a variety of gear. He also had a park radio with him,
however, in some drainages radio coverage is spotty or his battery
could have run out.
This is his fourth season as a park ranger at Rocky Mountain National
Park.
Jeff is an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and has worked ski patrol
at Winter Park for the past seven years. His hometown is Fraser,
Colorado.

new frequencies

Besides 166.350 simplex for search crews I have been hearing some traffic on 166.350 110.9hz CH-2 repeater when terrain is tough. Also found a aircraft frequency of 122.575. They seem to have a AM repeater set up on this for ICP or a retransmission. They are currently running all 4 choppers on this freq. I am located in Wellington so most everyone on the front range a distance away from the mountains should be able to monitor. I am using a rubber duck on a Pro-96

For a second day, searchers returned to the area where rangers heard a gun shot on Wednesday. They used air horns and whistles, but didn't hear any response.

The search for Christensen has become the largest search in the history of Rocky Mountain National Park. There were 150 people on the ground with three dog teams on Friday. Five helicopters equipped with infrared heat sensing equipment flew overhead.

More people are expected to come out over the weekend. Friday marks a week since Christensen disappeared after heading out on what was to be a day-long back country patrol at the north end of the park. Some areas have been searched several times.

Christensen's parents will talk with NBC's The Today Show Saturday morning about their son.

The search for missing Rocky Mountain National Park Ranger Jeff
Christensen will intensify this weekend with over 200 searchers on the ground. Christensen was last seen by visitors near the summit of Mount Chiquita at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 29. He was planning a
backcountry patrol to the Lawn Lake Trailhead that evening. He did not contact park dispatch that evening and did not arrive for his shift on Saturday. The search now enters its eighth day.

Today the searchers (including National Park Service personnel and
search and rescue volunteers) and nine dog teams will continue to search the 26 square mile area where they believe Christensen may be, based on known
evidence. Additionally, five helicopters will be used in today’s
operation, both to shuttle some crews into hard to access areas and to conduct aerial reconnaissance. A military helicopter equipped with infra-red, capable of sensing the heat from a person, will be used this morning. Some crews will be spending the night out in the search area to lengthen their search period. Ground crews will once again focus their efforts in the area
where Wednesday’s evidence indicated Christensen may be. Today’s weather is expected to be clear this morning with a possibility of scattered
showers in the afternoon.

Tragic Ending

Just got the press release the body of Jeff Christansen has been found up in RMNP at 1pm by a hiker, It appears that he suffered a fall.
