School Reenacts Shooting For Training Purposes
Mock Drill Took Place At Standley Lake High School
A shooting inside a school is a situation no police officer ever wants to see but they know as long as it could happen, it's something they must train for.
This week, students at Standley Lake High School in Westminster are giving up part of spring break to help officers in a very realistic exercise.
Students and parents acted like victims while smoke and gunfire added to the stress level for police.
"It's really dramatic training. It's really hitting hard with the officers. Obviously, a lot of us have kids. A lot of us have something really invested in the schools," said Westminster police spokesman Tim Read.
Westminster police say school settings are vulnerable targets for domestic and non-domestic acts of violence.
They said pre-planning is the key to preventing and responding to these incidents.
