IBM is a common acronym during an "in service" law enforcement comm. It seems like "inservice beginning mileage", but it may be simply officer ID. I've heard actual mileage in some counties, which tracks from shift to shift, and others which are simply a four digit number, similar to the format some ambulances use for incident to hospital (for billing purposes).

Boulder PD also uses the "IBM Number" phrase over the air for beginning of watch. Even before their implementation of MDC's in the cars.

Thanks for the link Todd.

Not a problem, I remembered Troop talking about that a while back so I looked up the thread.

Phil, Thank for letting me know that Boulder PD uses "IBM numbers" at the beginning of their shift. I rarely if ever monitor Boulder so for me the only agency that I ever heard use the term was CSP.
