Greetings everyone,

I will be visiting the Denver/Ft Collins area this summer. I am currently in the process of programming everything into my scanner. I have noticed the Denver International Airport data is complete except for the aviation frequencies. I have quickly gathered the frequencies for KDEN and Fort Collins-Loveland Municipal Airport(KFNL) and awaiting to be confirmed first before they are sent in to the RR database.

Many thanks and I am looking forward to Colorado this summer

The DIA stuff looks good. 121.85 is GC east, 127.5 is GC west. Unicom's not used/monitored.
I've got the ramp control freqs here someplace... I'll post if there's any interest.

If someone has confirmed/verified some/all of these frequencies, can you submit them for working into the database? :)

I have about 50 channels of Civ Aero that I monitor (from multiple sources). I'll convert them from my ARC780 file and post.

DIA air traffic questions

That's Denver Center in Longmont. They control a good portion of the higher altitude airspace around Denver. I don't have a URL, but there are maps showing the boundaries of the various center secotrs across the country. Very few comms (if any) are actually broadcast from that location on VHF freqs, rather they are sent to remote transmitters that could be located on top of a frozen mountain in the middle of the state. It's a large piece of real estate they cover and there was no way they could it by running all comms to and from that building directly.

edit: When I say "higher altitude" that could be as low as 8,000' MSL. Typically, center will contol enroute traffic, be it single engine pistons, or fully loaded 747's.

Denver Center Longmont = http://www.nw.faa.gov/ats/zdvartcc/index.htm

Tracon at DIA = http://www.flydenver.com/guide/facility/faa.asp

Longmont: The Centers role is best characterized by thinking of it as you would the hi-way patrol as compared to the county sheriffs department. While the Denver TRACON covers the busy terminal areas around the city of Denver, the Center covers a vast area of airspace outside of and in between the major airports of the nation.

The Denver Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) is one of 20 such facilities throughout the United States and is charged with the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic in over 280,000 square miles of airspace. The geographical area covered by Denver Center extends from approximately 50 miles west of Grand Junction, Colorado, to 12 miles east of Vernal, Utah, to 50 miles north of Gillette, Wyoming, to 75 miles east of North Platte, Nebraska, to 25 miles northwest of Garden City, Kansas, to 10 miles north of Taos, New Mexico, and to 20 miles west of Tuba City, Arizona.

DIA : FAA Systems

The FAA's Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facility, located about three miles south of DIA's terminal complex, houses highly trained air traffic controllers who coordinate aircraft flights within a 45-mile radius up to an altitude of 24,000 feet.
Denver's 327-foot control tower is one of the tallest FAA structures in North America. Its 33 stories give air traffic controllers an unobstructed view of all runways.
Final Monitor Aids (FMA) help TRACON controllers coordinate triple independent simultaneous landings at DIA, the first airport in the world to have such operations. The FMA system uses radar, computers and color monitors to give real-time tracking information to controllers who are monitoring the final approaches of landing aircraft.
Two Airport Surveillance Radars (ASR-9s) provide airspace tracking information to FAA controllers.
Twenty-nine wind speed and direction sensors provide crucial wind shear information to a central computer that reports to air traffic controllers. Working in conjunction with this alert system is Terminal Doppler Weather Radar, which tracks storms and is useful in locating microburst activity.
ASDE-III (Airport Surface Detection Equipment) radar enables controllers to monitor airport ground traffic and is especially valuable when weather obscures part of the airfield. Linking this technology and other FAA facilities and systems is a network of more than 800,000 feet (152 miles) of fiber optic cable. All of the FAA's navigational, warning and controlling systems at DIA give the airport the most advanced aviation technology available.

Datainmotion would you happen to know if low frequencies of 126.5 and 125.95 handle inbound denver int traffic being handed off from 120.575 and 128.325(high alt sectors)

Holy necropost Batman!

I am by no means an expert on what you are asking. Maybe "captaincraig", "poltergeisty" or Jim can answer this...

With it not being to busy right now, this is all I have. 128.325 is kicking traffic to 126.5, then off to tracon 119.3.

128.325 is also kicking jets to 120.575. Their all above FL350.

::wipes tear:: It's ok. Looks like 128.325 is Sector 14 and 120.575 is Sector 16.

Anyone know what frequency is after 120.575 going into Denver ??? I know the general flow from DEN ARTCC into DEN is 126.325-120.575- ?????

inbound from east: 120.575>118.475>119.3(Tracon)>120.8(Final Control)>135.3(KDEN Tower)

going east: 120.575>135.025

I've found that it depends on various factors what freqs TRACON will use. I'll try to start keeping track of the order of freqs we go though and what configurations DIA was using at the time. Unfortunately, I find myself pretty much coming in on the Powder (SW arrival gate) exclusively with the flying I'm doing recently. I can tell you that we'll come in on the arrival and have one set of freqs, and a few hrs later on the same arrival, have a different sequence of freqs.
