CLEAR CREEK - Fifty-four-year-old Brian Smith is recovering and alive after getting caught in an avalanche Saturday afternoon.

Smith and his step-son were hiking on Torrey's Peak, southeast of Georgetown, when Smith was caught in the slide that went down about 1,000 feet and partially buried him.

Smith was airlifted by Alpine Rescue members to St. Anthony Central. Smith was complaining of back and hip pains. Smith's legs were moving.
