ESTES PARK, Colo. -- About 50 people were called to Rocky Mountain National Park Thursday to search for a 48-year-old man who was reported missing over the Memorial Day weekend.

A missing persons report for Terry Harlon, of Shreveport, La., was issued on Sunday, according to a release by park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson. Harlon's relatives filed the missing persons report with Estes Park police after he failed to return home from a trip to the park.

Park Rangers found Harlon's rented van Wednesday afternoon at a parking area at the Colorado River Trailhead, on the west side of the park. Crews then began looking for Harlon, but initial search efforts turned up with no sign of the man.

Harlon is described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and weighing 185 pounds, balding on the top with salt and pepper hair on the sides and a mustache.

He was believed to be alone when he disappeared. The last time he used an ATM was no Thursday in nearby Grand Lake, Colo.

Park rangers werebeing assisted by Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Grand County Search and Rescue, Grand Lake Fire Protection District, Larimer County Search and Rescue and the Colorado Search and Rescue Board. A helicopter and four dog teams were also involved in Thursday's search.

Missing Shreveport man found safe in Rocky Mountain National Park

Rangers and search dogs this afternoon found a Shreveport man who had been missing in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.

Terry Harlon, 48, was reported missing on Sunday. Searchers spotted him waving to a search helicopter. He was about six miles from where the search started, Denver TV station KMGH said.

Searchers said Harlon was responsive but very tired. They did not immediately provide details of his exact condition nor if Harlon had gotten lost in the park.

Rangers had found Harlon's rented van Wednesday at the Colorado River Trailhead on the park's west side. His pack and camera were not in the van. They found no sign of Harlon at nearby campgrounds.

Harlon had been alone. His wife filed a missing-person report Sunday after he failed to return home from a trip to the park.

Harlon works in the body shop at the General Motors truck assembly plant in Shreveport.

Rocky Mountain National Park straddles the Continental Divide northwest of Denver.

About 50 searchers had been looking for Harlon, using tracking dogs and a helicopter to try to find him.
