I had the privilege of leading the escort off the airfield tonight. An impressive return home for a fallen seaman: after the joint USN-USMC honor guard carried the coffin to the hearse (doing the slow military funeral march,) we proceeded at 10 mph thru the airside toward the vehicle gate. As we approached, there was DFD on either side of the gate, lights on, crews saluting the hearse as it went by. The Freedom Riders motorcycle group were outside the gate, holding 20+ American flags at roadside. CSP and LPD motorcycles and cars were lined up to escort the group back to Longmont.
If any one reading knows any of the groups listed above, be sure to tell them "thank you." They all did a great job of honoring this young man.

Thank you for sharing. I was curious what type of events would take place at DIA as I only got to see them come through the city of Longmont.

I heard the whole thing on LGMT PD DISP channel. At first I thought they had a roadblock for a high speed chase. Then they said they ended up on 3rd and Terry, so I went to investigate (walked through on the sidewalk), and saw the firetrucks, police cars, news media. And dumb me who never watches or reads the news called up my grandmother to find out if a cop died, and then heard the tragic news about the sailor being killed.
