Thought you guys might be interested in this:

The story is about a guy from Morrison (probably an RR member!) who is assisting in the search for those missing climbers in Oregon. He's using drone aircraft, that he apparently built in his garage, to relay real-time telemetry and IR images back to his laptops at base camp to help searchers. Good video of the plane as he does a show and tell for the cameras...

Questions: How do you think video and telemetry gets transmitted? 2.4 GHz? Can't have that great of a range...

I do not see the aircraft he is holding operating at 11,000 - 12,000 feet, especially in the weather, where T-Mobile is saying their cellphone is pinging from. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

Can the thing be programmed to fly a grid with GPS? Also don't see being able to control it remotely in real-time with the gear I see demonstrated. It's gotta be somewhat autonomous...

I hope he's successful, though! I'd be pretty cool if his little plane found these guys...
