If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello- I was recently given a Sinclair Antenna from the Fire Dept that I work for. It was replaced after being struck by lightning. I am looking for someone who knows something about these base antennas as I would like to rebuild it and use it as a base antenna for my shop. It is 20 feet long and it is just the fiberglass mast (about 4 feet at the bottom is aluminum and 2" in diameter) There is no element inside and the horizontal elements are also missing.
Any information or specs on this antenna would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like all you have is a piece of tubing that was an antenna, the lighting strike has blown away all of the real antenna parts and you have the supporting shell. What you ahve has no real value or is repairable.

So you're saying the fiberglass tube is empty? The elements would be inside, so if it's hollow that would be bizarre.

I have seen that a few times with damage being just burned up jumpers in the tube or even only unrecognizable pieces in there.
That is why (IMHO) it is better to use ganged dipole antennas where lightning is common; even though they cost more--if you replace fiberglass antennas more than once it costs more anyway.

I am going to investigate further today and post my findings. Upon the initial assesment it appears to be empty. I will also see if I can get the model number off the label. Thanks for all the input.

The label is in pretty rough shape but I was able to get one number from it: SRL249-1535. The overall length is 263" and the aluminum section is 54" long. I could not find an image for the same model, but this one looks almost identical. (http://antennasystems.com/images/sc229.jpg)
As I mentioned, this was given to me so I have no investment in it. I am only trying to find some specifications to understand how it's supposed to work and possible build it into a decent RX antenna.
