A Video Tribute To Those Men Who Make All This Possible
As best I could ascertain the video was originally posted on the host Youtube account in 1998 & rereleased in 2011 before or after updated OSHA guidelines I have no idea, as for the climbers foolhardiness or fastidious adherence to required safety guidelines that's not my province, the video was posted in tribute to tower climbers as a profession, a significant aspect that makes our hobby what it is today, I've already received comments on other forums that the video was rereleased to bring certain issues to light in recognition over the Jay Guilford death in 2008, three years before the original video was rereleased & I'm not going to defend, excoriate or even comment on that, now my three personal experiences with tower climbing was rather mundane, I was already an employee at Lin/Pageboy/Aircall/Mobile Radio Communications headquartered at 260 Madison Avenue in New York City working under the tutelage of Anthony "Tony" Papa at the 244 East 38th street maintenance building next to the AT&T facility, I cleaned the old tin cans & prepped the new Motorola Metropagers for service while attending school for electronics, I was offered a chance at field work & took it, after signing my life away off we went to a tower site they had an antenna on in Hauppauge, Tony stayed on the ground while Pete & Joe hooked, harnessed & literally sandwiched me in between them on those three brief forays to the top of the world, not tall by todays standards but tall enough to impress me, bottom line I begged off because there was no raise in pay plus I enjoyed being at the maintenance building between pager prep jobs twirling the dials on their $5,000 dollar Singer combination signal generator frequency meter spectrum display unit that sat between the two Faraday cage workstations, eventually I moved on to other ventures, it was much fun while it lasted though.
BTW: Here is a photo of my work toy, I really wished I could've afforded one of my own.
