    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello all,

We are working on a school project in which we were tasked to design an FM receiver antenna that receives signals at frequencies between 900 Mhz and 1000 Mhz. What are some potential antenna builds/dimensions we should research? Where should we start?

It is odd that the modulation mode "FM" is mentioned for this task. Antennas don't normally care what modulation is being used. Is this going to be for a specific application like a TV down-link from a drone? If so, you might want to concentrate on directional antennas with some gain, like a yagi, a helical or patch. Otherwise an antenna can be as simple as a 1/4 wave dipole.

Also the FM between 900 MHz and 1000 MHz. Are you sure the decimal point isn't off one digit?

Do you know what the instructor is looking for in the final design? Will they give more points for gain or band width or small size or ?? With so many types of antennas to choose from in that frequency range it would be nice to know where to concentrate your research.

Knowing what the antenna will be mounted on, and any environmental exposures, would be good.

You can easily build a bowtie antenna from coat hangars and a broom stick

A 4 bay bowtie design is both easy to build and will provide excellent performance
