• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

How is that different than the original Larsen 150/450/800 other than a spring?

EDIT: Now I see larger bandwidth at UHF and inclusion of 700.

Bingo.
The original Larsen tri-bander started off as a scanner antenna. The original release had verbage saying "not for transmitting". A few years after it's release they started advertising it for transceiver use. Good for most stuff, but lacked in the 700MHz range. Now that there are so many multiband radios coming out, it was a good idea.

A lot lower profile than some of the other tri-band antennas.

Very nice! I would definitely upgrade my current Larsen tri-band when this is available.

More information here:

Pulse Larsen Introduces a New Antenna

Pulse Larsen antennas will introduce the new NMO150450758 tri-band-monopole antenna to accommodate the Motorola APX™ 8500 mobile at APCO. This omnidirectional antenna will have vertical polarization and an NMO connector. The IP67 rated and RoHS compliant antenna will be economically priced, while covering 150-165/430-520/750-870MHz. A more flexible spring to allow for better environmental performance and durability that other competitive products in the marketplace.

It's a spring/pin base rather than the tab contact. Also, is got the indentations, which make it easier to remove from the mount.
Ah, I see.

Spring/pin base? Isn't this a major departure for Larsen? The tab contact has been a Larsen feature for decades. Are they just copying other people at this point?

What I'd really like to see is a Nickel Boron (NiB) or PVD/DLC finish as the black paint on both of my Larsen Tri-Bands is flaking...

Yes, I was talking to their guys about that.
They said there were two "camps", those that loved the tab base, and those that like the spring base.
I've never had a problem with the tab base antennas. I did have issues with the old spring base Motorola 800MHz antennas from the 80's and 90's, my understanding was that those were made for M by Antenex, maybe.

Either way, it was a nice looking antenna. Would be nice to see how it compares with the others.

I'll try. The expo floor closes tonight, and I've got a few sessions I need to be at in the afternoon.

Most of the big stuff had to do with LTE, LTE-LMR conversion, and of course, FirstNet. FirstNet has a pretty prominent booth.

Kenwood had their VP/VM line of radios on display. Some LTE stuff.
Motorola had their Haz-Lo APX radios.
Only one CCR company there, and it looked like they were pretty much getting ignored.
Hytera had a nice booth with some interesting tactical/portable DMR mesh type repeaters. Nice looking stuff. I think they are going places.
