OSWEGO, N.Y. -- A public hearing held last Friday for the purpose of seeking comments in regard to the environmental impact of the construction of proposed towers in Oswego County for the new E-911 radio system drew about a dozen residents.

I wish the press would stop referring to public safety radio systems as "9-1-1" systems.

9-1-1 is the emergency telephone number. E or Enhanced 9-1-1 includes location information for the originating telephone. Neither of these things are connected with radio dispatching.

I agree Dave. My thinking is if they lump "e911" or "911" that folks will be more accepting of it. Oh well...and I didn't know that the federal gov't was requiring them to move to??? 800MHz either. Just some spin I suppose. Hopefully in the end they will have a robust communications system that serves all user's needs.
