I am looking for advice on what scanner would work to monitor Wethersfield EMS, Fire, and PD. I currently have a Uniden BC346XT which works for Wethersfield Fire but does not seem to work for Wethersfield EMS or PD. Which I am pretty sure is because this would require a digital scanner and the 346xt is not.

Any advice/recommendations as to what scanner would work to receive EMS, Fire, and PD? Preferably a handheld.

You'll need a Phase II scanner.

I recommend Uniden 325P2.

It's similar to your 346 in form factor.

I have one and it works great!

Good luck!

If you are wanting to monitor the system mentioned:

You might ask around in the Connecticut forums to get an idea of how the current crop of scanners handles that system. Simulcast systems can prove to be hard to monitor on the current scanners but it varies from system to system.

Since it is a simulcast system, you might consider waiting a month and getting the Uniden SDS100 just to be safe.

I monitor Wethersfield on my Uniden 536HP and have no simulcast issues.

I am within range of 2 of their simulcast sites and my HP 2 works pretty well, about 95% of the time

You should also know that Wethersfield Volunteer Ambulance provides only part time coverage. For the bulk of EMS calls you will also need to program Aetna Ambulance dispatch channels into your new scanner.
