need help with scanner

I am a newbie with scanners and just bought a radio shack pro 106. I guess I am a little too simple minded but I would like to know how to download the frequencies I want to listen to. Example: I downloaded the local frequencies on my scanner but I also have every city service along with the police,fire and emergency services. I really am not interested in hearing the trash trucks or dog catchers but I don't know how to eliminate the ones I don't want. Any help is appreciated

You need to donwload ONLY the ones you want and put the scanner in close mode.

I guess my question is this, on the frequency screen it lists all services and offers the download option.

how do I just download the police,and emergency and fire channels and not the others?
