I was watching the Caps/Leafs game from Rogers Centre last night and noticed the Caps assistant coach with a coiled 'surveillance' type ear bud in. Anyone have any clue what sort of comms pro teams typically use? Would be interesting to sit near the bench (guess I better start saving to afford those seats!) with a close call/signal stalker enabled scanner and see what turns up.

I added Ottawa to the wiki page. If you have other updates for that page please post them or go ahead and make the updates/corrections.

A few years ago I went to an ECHL game and one of the coaching staffs was using an unscrambled VHF itinerant frequency. I would expect the NHL teams to be using a simplex analog VHF or UHF frequency unless they have found some cheap digital radios. Also, from my experience, they don't talk a lot on the radios and the best time to catch them is right before the period starts when they test to make sure they can hear each other.

You may wish to try some of these freq.. Not sure how accurate they will be for the Maple Leafs.... I know a few of these are on the trunk system but you may find something and remember they don't do a lot of talking, The guy up in the box only relays injury info from another team or if a goal was a bad one....

All of those frequencies are part of the ACC's low power Motorola analog trunk system for security/events/maintenance operations.

Thanks for the tips guys. I didn't figure there would be a lot of traffic on whatever frequency they use.... just more of a 'wonder what they use?' kinda question.

Next time I'm at the ACC (won't be till Jan) I'll check into if the teams are using any coms. The Motorola trunked radio network as mentioned above is mostly used for building operations. During concerts they'll use a talkgroup since simplex UHF does nothing in the building.

All the suites, (catering staff) are using a digital radio (not turbo, something like the DTR650) for what ever reason...

I would presume that anything you'd here from the teams is either useless or encrypted.

Will do some searching in the new year.
