Default US - Bitcoin value tops gold for first time

"A unit of the digital cryptocurrency Bitcoin has exceeded the value of an ounce of gold for the first time. It closed at $1,268 on Thursday while a troy ounce of gold stood at $1,233. The current high is being attributed to surging demand in China, where authorities warn it is used to channel money out of the country. The past months' surge is a major reversal for Bitcoin, which plummeted in value in 2014 after the largest exchange collapsed..." -

I took a chance back in May of 2014.. I paid $430 for one Bitcoin just to say I owned one. I never really thought of it as an investment.

Now they're trading at around $1290... Shoulda bought a bunch of them

I'm letting it ride. But it's still a crap shoot... Who knows what will happen if another exchange gets hacked?

Is it correct that there is a limited amount of Bitcoins that can be created?

21 million according to an internet search and the current amount created is around 12 million?

So roughly around half have been created?

I guess you could read that as plenty more fish in the sea to harvest from an investment point of view?

Or does it mean it's had it's day?

Also when the final Bitcoin is created do they really all destruct?

Bring back wampum i say.
