Folks,

Lots of changes are happening for Customs and CBP Air Interdiction operations frequencies.

The old frequency of 282.425 MHz for primary interdiction operations around the nation's borders has now switched to 350.025. The switch may still be in progress across the nation, however many reports show that much of the critical areas have switched. There are a number of remote transmitters on this network that all tie back to March AFB (Callsign: HAMMER -- centralized C4I command for CBP) - and I can confirm that South Texas has made the switch.

Also, 136.375 is used as a very common air-to-air and air-to-base (not March AFB/Hammer), but "homeplate" type activities, for CBP air operations. I typically hear air-to-ground, air-to-air, training, and other CBP operations on this frequency in South Texas.

I'm interested in hearing reports of other's monitoring hits and activities for CBP/Customs operations.

350.025 is used here in SoCal. I live just 10 minutes from March, so I get to hear it loud and clear. Couple months ago I heard Omaha aircraft tracking various targets. I often hear lots of test counts on 282.425 but thats about it.

Lindsay,

I've heard both 136.375 and 350.025mhz being used here in Arizona. Have not heard 282.425mhz used in a long time.

142.375 mhz

I picked up a close call hit on 142.375 at the Panther Junction Park headquarters (Big Bend National Park) recently. The mode was P-25 digital. At the time, there were several CBP units as well as LE Rangers holding a meeting in the parking lot so not sure which agency is using the frequency. I did hear sporadic activity on this frequency several times during my stay but the signal was very weak.

Is that 136.375 freq FM mode or AM mode? Is there a set way to determine mode for 136-144?

That is AM.

That frequency range is normally AM when used by air assets, whether it be the Feds or Military.

It's busier at night than during the day? Are you hearing surveillance or what? And what kind of unit designators are you hearing?

I would think that CBP Air & Marine would be heard at night working interdiction ops on the west side of the island. Spiritwolfpr, any comments?

That frequency is actually 165.2375 MHz.

What kind of antenna farm are you using that you can copy Puerto Rico from down the Jersey Shore? I would have thought that monitoring and validating transmissions from this station might have been a little difficult.

Oh ok, got it. It's awesome that they actually have their own TG's on the system. USBP has an agreement with the Monroe County (South Florida, Key West) Sheriff's Office. They are on the Monroe County 800 MHz system, but have no assigned TG's. Additionally, they still use their VHF system as well as marine channels.

San Diego, Customs Air (BLUE channels, as they used to be called), have switched to 350.025. Used to be on 282.425, very occasional radio checks still heard there, sometimes also used 282.400 as an alternate, and used 303.825 as 'BLUE 2' some years ago, so it's a possible as well.
