Smiley face in link URL

I added a link to one of my messages and it contained a smiley face since the URL contained the codes that translated to this emoticon ( : followed by D ). Is this something that can be trapped and not translated for links? Although the link appeared to work, it sure looked wierd. It's copied below so you can see what happened.

Yup. Typing in will make that smiley face, as in Categoryigital Scanners. You can avoid this when you make a new post by scrolling down in the new post page and checking "disable smileys in text" under "Additional Options."
