Can anyone recommend an older mobile scanner that has an alphanumeric display that I might be able to pick up on eBay? I know that Radio Shack now makes the Pro 2096 and Pro 2055, but I don't want to spend over $200!

Any suggestions about old or no longer made scanners?

You Can Check For A Uniden BC 8500 XLT, Not digital Mind You, But The Alpha Numeric Display Is Larger Than Most.

It's My B/U Rig For The Lowbands/VHF/UHF

Forget How Old It Is, Price Should Not Be Too Bad I Would Think

DANG!! thats a blast from the past! Sold mine last year on ebay. Quite a hot reciever, mine was. I remember running it to monitor my local PD without an antenna! Had it mounted in the "work" car for a time, as well. I remember one of the radio techs coming to work on my main radio and recoiling in terror when he saw the MR8100.
"That display looks like it does Braille characters! Never mind how huge it is!!!"

Think i might try to pick up another...

What I own/have owned...

2055 x 2
2053 x 2
2067
MR8100

The 2055 when on sale for $150 is fantastic !!!!
My 2053s are nice looking as a base or mobile, with a large display.
The 2067 was complete garbage, could not RX a hi-power UHF repeater five miles away.
The MR8100 is just old school
