Heard today on a local police tac channel: His radio scans for the word "food"... Tones drop on his radio when it hears the word "food"...

There are several 161.xxxx MHz frequencies assigned to radio and tv stations.

Well, I obviously found one. I usually don't listen to much in the 160-161 MHz range.

Don't feel bad. You can also find law enforcement ops in the 160.xxxx MHz area. Grant County, AR, is an example: Grant County, Arkansas (AR) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Heard over car to car after an officer reported losing sight of car doing in excess of 120 MPH...

"210, was that description actually an Dodge Charger, orange with Rebel Flag and 01 scheme?" A few seconds later you hear the opening to "The Dukes of Hazzard"... Then mic clicks... Humor is alive and well.

“Caller on the line would like to see an officer about the ambulance lights next door disturbing her”

... so they want a police car out front to deal with the ambulance next door?

Yikes!! Some people. I wonder is she asked the dispatcher to tell the responding officer to arrive with his lights off?

Unhappy ...

This one is not exactly funny, but it needed to be posted...

I heard a communication snafu this morning that's really too long-winded to put up here...and much more sadly obtuse than funny anyway. It was so bad I just had to put down my tools and suffer through it. But amidst it, the fact came out that a certain County Dispatcher had no idea whether or not a certain City Officer she was also responsible for dispatching was even on duty or not. She had to call him to find out that, yes, he was indeed on duty (County and this municipality are dispatched on the same TG from the same Center, pretty common practice for smaller towns in not-heavily-populated counties). This is absolutely inexcusable. Apparently the Duty Log was invented in vain. I really hope her superiors monitored this and have by now placed their footwear in the appropriate place for maximum effect.

OMG Really!? Back when I was working for an mid sized County SO, we did dispatching for the SO, VFD's, EMA, and could also dispatch for the municipal FD's. We had two PC's running, one with the SO's calls, stats, etc... Every time an Deputy called in stat, we entered it in the db. Thats supposed to be basic routine operations. Sounds like some training needs done here. And that was on what today would be called an low tech set up. On some of the newest big time high tech set ups, its the same only bigger. Only time I hear about anyone asking about on duty status for anyone is detectives etc... Those the dispatcher/controller usually can just switch to another screen for a second and have that info too...

- "Woman on the line, at [Motel] room 156 states two angry men are pounding on her door"

- "Be advised we're here with the State Police who are serving a warrant on room 156. Tell her to open the door please."

Heard maintenance on the Trolley talkgroup asking everyone at the gas pump step back and need to download you and the buses. That went on/off for 20 mints.

I have to assume so, there was no further on that call. I don't monitor those calls, as BCI and Narcs execute warrants on encrypted channels.

Heard this last night in silicon valley, the land of high tech -

Officer: My computer went down earlier than usual today. You'll have to advise me of the details of the event.
Dispatch: 10-4

Just came over the local constabulary frequency:

Unit XX: Unit XX to central, I'll be checking a car parked near the city swimming pool. White Grand Am, no lights on.
Central dispatch: 10-4.

... a few minutes later ...

Unit XX: XX to Central.
Central dispatch: Go ahead.
Unit XX: I spoke to the occupants, they're going to get dressed and move on.
Central: keys up, then dead silence, then slowly says "10-4."

As crazy as the world is these days, it's nice to hear that some things remain constant.

Early Thursday Night rain started to come and it rained and rained for hours and we had a flash flood warning/watch. Well I woke up to a talkgroup (Solid Waste) one driver said I have a floating dumpster and ask what should I do? Someone comes back and says you better grab it it's running away and they had some calls about the dumpsters floating cause of the rain.

When I was working sometimes I'd take the desk duty, which heppened to be accross from the chief's office. Usually I'd catch up on paperwork

Local news stations would call and ask if anything was going on. Dozens of time's I'd reply:

"Oh yeah! We have a car chase, you should check it out."

Then they'd go:

"Awesome where!?!?"

Then me:

"Nah just kidding"

The chief would be laughing his butt off across the hall listening to our conversation.

A few times Byron Barnett from our local news station would ask me where someone would be coming out if there was some sort of medical/ fire/ barracaded situation. I'd say "Oh yeah, on the left" and he'd run over. Then I'd tell the guys to come out the other side. Pretty funny lol
