I have a radioshack Pro-433 scanner that I have powered in my cars cigarette lighter port and am wanting to add a noise filter because I don't want to hard wire the scanner and I can hear static when frequencies come in - maybe engine noise. Who sells a noise filter for this scanner? and how is it installed?

I have the same issue - I've got a small FM transmitter which sends the audio to the stereo on an unused FM channel. My alternator is noisy as hell - so much so that it sometimes masks the audio from the scanner on weak signals.

A filter for this would not be installed at the scanner, but more likely on the line between the fuse block and cigarette lighter (or perhaps ahead of the fuse block...) I'm horrible on car electronics, so someone else will have to jump in here for that.

Get over your phobia about hard wiring and wire it directly to the battery and there will probably be no need for a filter. The average auto battery acts like a huge filter capacitor when hooked directly to.

Well, Im not sure how to wire it to the battery. When you hook the wires to the battery, how do you run the cord to your scanner? I did not see a place to run the cord from battery to scanner. Can you get a filter fo this issue? if so, any suggestions on where I could get one?

The scanners red wire goes to the battery + post and the scanners black wire goes to the battery - post. In between is the vehicle fire wall. If you cant find a rubber gromet to poke a hole into for the power cable you will have to find a spot to drill a hole for the power cable. If the cable is not long enough then extend it. Make sure to secure the power cable with wire fasteners when inside the engine compartment. Its not really that hard - go for it.

PS - Oh yes, dont forget to seal up any holes in the firewall and try and use a gromet if you drill a hole.

When you stick the cable through the firewall, where will the other end of the wire be?

The end that gets hooked up to the battery is in the engine compartment and you route that to the battery and the other end that gets plugged into the scanner is in the passenger compartment. If your asking questions that are this basic your in trouble already.

Today's replacement for Radio Shack Catalogs.........

{BUZZZZZZZZZZZ} " Alex, What is Google(ing) for noise filters?"

See CF2 and NS20 here (similar to what RS sold:
http://radioproshop.com/filters/filters.htm

http://buyreliant.com/caudio/noise.htm

http://www.fotoconnection.com/p48098-american-international-noise-filter.html

If you've got a lot of radios, these have been around a long time:
http://www.gold-line.com/cbprod.htm

If you see an item here you like, google the model number for a better price. If nothing here looks good search the 100,000+ results you get by searching "dc line filters" or "cb noise filters"
