Choosing Handheld Scaner

Hello.
I live in Central Pa. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=2262 I have an old Radioshack pro-2050 800Mhz scanner. I'm looking for a handheld Uniden. Please tell me if I should get the BCD396T Digital or another Handheld. Please help me.

For your county your going to need something that will do P-25 , EDACs, Motorola Type II, and LTR, The Open sky is unmonitorable. So with that in mind you'd be better off looking for something Digital. You can read the various threads to get info on the different digital scanners, the WIKI is also a great resource for information. Hope this Helps ya Hoser

I think the that with the release of the new firmware for the GRE PSR-500 you might want to take a good look at that one as well as the BCD396T

P25 / APCO 25 is digital that the BCD396T could handle. For the non digital Motorola Type II, EDACS, and LTR you could get by with something cheaper like the BC246T. Nothing can do Opensky.

At present the Uniden/Bearcat BC396T, BC996T, BR330T, and BC15T support the FTO mode. However, you can not scan or listen to anything when it is in the FTO mode. Here's more: http://www.wpascanner.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hardware:Tone_Out

The Uniden BCD396T has Fire Tone Out but you need to know the tones used.
The radio has to set to the one frequency that uses the tone/s and will not scan.
