• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Im already there!
As soon as I found out about MURS this year I started buying the equipment. As far as Im concerned MURS is what CB should have been from the beginning. The way I figure it is if we talk wideband on the upper two channels and narrow on the others and NEVER talk on any other channels the FCC wont bother us about power. As long as we keep it to 25 watts or so.

Im in Hamilton, MI right now but in a few days I will be going back to Lenoir NC with all my MURS gear and Im gonna set up a base and all my friends mobiles. So far Ive been able to talk 8 miles from base to mobile. Im sure I can improve that range by buying new coaxial cable(what im using is RG8U thats abt 40 yrs old! It was my dads.)and a new base antenna.(Im using a tram 5/8 over 5/8 I bought on the internet. Its not a bad antenna but I want to build a copy of a Phelps/Dodge SuperStationMaster wich is the best Omnidirectional base antenna I know of.)

I thought the whole purpose of Children's Band radio was to be loud, obnoxious and push as much power as you could?

I am sure Wal-mart loves you guys, lol. Walmart uses MURS mainly 154.6 and 154.57 no PL. If you are using PL I am sure you never hear them, but I know they hear you.

I have so much fun with a simple Land Mobile radio programed to 154.6 with .5 watt output.
Leaves them dazed.
Then they come on thinking we are in violation and that were illegal.
They call the cops only to find out we are not.
I'm pretty sure they are over 5watts and use radios with detachable antennas so....

Most walmart mgrs are aware by now that they are on a "shared" band, they just don't like it.
Try calling for customer assistance sometime? They'll come but may try to give you some static.
Nicely explaining to them that it's murs they're using and they have to share, lol!

Effective 1-1-2013 all public safety, industrial and business radio users will have to convert to narrow band frequencies. I am in the commercial two-way business and have started converting users. Although the antenna does not care if it is narrow or wide band, most users are deciding to replace the antenna and coax with the base station/repeater. You may want to keep an eye on your local law enforcement and radio shops and watch their progress. You may be able to pick up a good VHF base/repeater antenna at a very low used cost. Most fire/police/sheriff are in the 154/156 range so they should fit just fine, and most of them are high quality 6db gain models.

Even though I would never advocate interfering with anyones communications, it would be something to key up at Wally World and say "Code Blue in Women's Lingere" just to see what would happen!

I am amazed that a billion dollar company uses license free radios. Home depot (at least the one in Dallas my friend worked at) used 900mhz frequency hoping radios. Hell-mart can spend tons of money on computer equipment for every store, like the associate harassing task management system but not on radios.

It was when all of the children saved up their paper route money and bought a radio at Radio Shack. Ever listen to the Supper Bowl on channel 6 during the height of skip? That is what CB was all about. LOL....

No MURS in Canada

As a reminder, no MURS have been approved for Canada. Thus US truckers coming up north may well be interfering with licensed users on these frequencies. Let's not let MURS go the way CB did!
