Does anyone know who the heck put up a digital repeater in or near Western Massachusetts?

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

What GMRS freq? What is the mode, DMR or P25?

Not sure what mode he is using as I dont have a digital radio. No need to have a digital radio on GMRS as it isn't legal to use.
I am wondering if some radio shop has set up a bootleg digital repeater for someone who probably has no idea what GMRS even is. I do have my suspicions about who's repeater this might be but I would have to take a 100 mile round trip road trip to be sure.

You know, the FCC enforcement bureau doesn't really pay much attention to GMRS - BUT, if someone had a .700 repeater on the air that was North of Line A - you might get them interested in a border issue with Canada.
Too bad Western Mass isn't north of line A. Are you SURE it's in Western Mass? If someone over the border in Vermont was picking up Digital on 462.700 they might be a better source of an enforcement complaint.

Some GMRS folks believe that Line A disappeared in the most recent revision of the Part 95 rules -- but I think that was more of a typo than a purposeful change in the border agreements with Canada. This might be a good way to get an official FCC ruling on it, but I don't have a dog in that hunt.

I'll be running between Springfield/East Longmeadow, MA and Enfield, CT next week, would the signal be readable in those areas? If so I'll be able to receive most of the digital modes.
I get it in the Westfield area, but I have a feeling that it is coming from a Northerly direction, maybe around Northampton?

I'll let you know if I hear something by mid next week and if I do I'll post what digital mode it is.
I wish the FCC would permit DMR and/or P25 on GMRS. It would be most useful to keep the rif-raf off some problematic systems.
Also to add, there is a network of repeaters in northern NJ called BlueCom. They are using P25 on GMRS regularly.

I was listening on a trip through south western MA and into Enfield, CT and only heard analog FM traffic on 462.700. What time of day or night does the digital mode show up?
Which GMRS frequency are you hearing that on?
While digital voice modes are still a "no-no" on GMRS, short message texting and GMRS became legal last year. Could this be what you're hearing? I'm hearing a bit of it in my area.

462.600 MHz. Most Bluecom repeaters are on this same frequency.
