John stated in a previous message/thread.
"Your not wrong but......Keep in mind that the 500/600 has been out for over 5 years and is a mature scanner. I still use the 500 for the reasons you state but I live in an area that is moving to P-25 systems and may be shut out of listening to some transmissions because the 500 will have hardware deficiencies that the 800 does not have on some Phase II broadcasts. GRE would have to do a hardware update on the 500/600, which is unlikely, to make it compatible with the 800. So the answer to your question is be well aware of what the technology is of the systems you want to monitor. If they are state of the art or soon to be you could be disappointed with a 500/600.
John"
What signals will the 800 receive that my 600 will not?
My area is already on P -25 systems and I receive them just fine except for the ones that have gone with encryption and I don't think the 800 will receive these encrypted signals either.
