Okay, I don't want to create a redundant thread, but I noticed that no one posted any frequencies for the 2010 Rose Parade. All I can find in a search of the RR database is info for the 2009 parade:

http://forums.radioreference.com/gr...-rose-parade-frequency-discussion-thread.html

So, does anyone anticipate any new frequencies that may be used either by Pasadena PD, LASO or CHP for the 2011 Rose Parade?

I've been listening to LASO parade ops for years from my nest in Northern Orange County. I generally can hear "GOLD" and "BROWN" units as they try to keep the peace along Colorado Boulevard on New Year's Eve.

I used to work for a company based here in L.A. that every year had a float in the parade (still does). I remember one year watching the parade on my TV with the mute on, while simultaneously listening to LASO on my scanner. That year, my company's float was horse-drawn and, when the horses got spooked and bolted toward the crowd, I remember the commotion over the Sheriff's frequencies.

For some reason, I've never been able to pick up the CHP units helping with crowd control, etc. I guess I've been too far away (plus, using a handheld scanner with a rubber duck doesn't help). But I've always been able to listen to LASO with no trouble.

So, any new frequencies I should be monitoring this New Year's Eve/New Year's Day?

Pasadena will soon be moving over to their new Motorola trunked system and, althought it is not scheduled to be used for the 2010 Parade, it might be interesting to listen in and see if they run it though any 'stress' testing during the New Years event.

CHP has a new license at the Rose Bowl on 39.10 Mhz, WQMB 505. That is a local repeater providing good coverage of the L.A. Basin and down into Orange county; it is on Mirador Reservoir above the Rose Bowl.

If they configure that frequency, or an alternate, as in past years, it will be patched into Pasadena P.D. It is a good channel to listen to at all times during the New Year's Eve brawl, parade, and game festivities. Just to be on the safe side, plug in all the L.A. area CHP Tac channels; it is possible the new equipment has yet to be installed and the frequency isn't active.

For the Sheriff, plug in all their non L-TAC tactical channels to determine which are used for parade/brawl operations.

CHP LA Central office has for last two days been on Blue (45.42) providing escorts for the team buses around town as they attend events. For example they were in Beverly Hills for the traditional "Beef Bowl" at Lawry's Prime Rib.

Hopefully they don't encrypt their channels on the new trunked system, because their current police chief was the former chief of Santa Monica PD. I'll cross my fingers.

Dave; I didn't have a chance to check the RR archives for past parade frequency assignments (so I aplologize if I am simply repeating myself here) - But this year the frequency restrictions for both the pre-parade and official Rose Parade are:

C-Tac 1
Mutual Aid 1
Mutual Aid 2
Mutual Aid 3
Mutual Aid 4
Mutual Aid 5
and
Star Tac 2

At this time I don't know the specific channel and corresponding zone assignments, but the "Gold" zone is definitely the busiest during pre-parade hours (peaking between 2100 - 0230) as this is where all of the bars are and the party usually starts and gets "interesting" as the night wears on)

As for CHP, not sure what "color" tactical(s) they use - If I find out I will def post.

Frequency restrictions are set to begin 1500 hours 12/31 so the radio traffic should start chattering to life around 1800.

Hope this helped;

Best,

-Eric

Good point. I don't believe that is the plan but I will have to ask. My neighbor's son's company is doing some or all of the work converting Pasadena PD over to digital so I will have to ask him and see.

The new Pasadena Radio system will not be online before this new years eve activities. They hope to be online and starting testing in the middle of the first quarter of 2011. As far as encryption, PPD was talking about keeping PD Channel 1 in the clear, but all channels will be encryption capable on all PD radios. I'm not sure what the new PD chief wants to do about encryption.

There was also some talk earlier this year about TOR going MOTOTRB for their UHF parade ops. I'm not sure if this happened or not. However, most TOR "White Coat" coms are done on Nextel.

Hope this helps,

I heard some radio-checks this AM on 155.475 which is the Nation Law Enforcement net. I recall in the past folks like FBI, CHP have used this for interop.

I have been scanning the bands and havent seen any trunking activity on theyre system. Does anyone know the set up for them so we can listen to any testing?

The future Pasadena Radio System is not online (transmitting) at this time. So you will not be able to hear anything on their new system until they turn it on. What you heard was the Pasadena radio shop on their ICIS TG (they do run encrypted most of the time). I'll ask when I'll be allowed to say more about the Pasadena Radio System, and post more details about it. Sorry to be cryptic about their system.
I can say is that the system isn't what most of you think it will be, and big changes are in store for ICIS early next year!
FYI, South Pasadena PD is now a full time ICIS subscriber.

Happy New Year!!!!

Well with the P25 core in place at the ICIS zone controller, me thinks that Pasadena will be on a fully P25 compliant simulcast cell tied into ICIS. Additionally I'm thinking that they may use some of the RICS Channel 15 spectrum to launch some if not all of their RF channels. Only time will tell and hopefully Kenji can provide more info when cleared. Just a few WAGS with no evidence other than knowing the direction ICIS is going and the fact that RICS is encourgaging folks to "borrow" some of their spectrum to fulfill the slow growth waiver.

What do ya think???

Pasadena was given I think 8 frequencies from the Sheriff's Dept from the channel 15 spectrum. The deal was that the Sheriff's Dept. can have a certain number of talkgroups on Pasadena's system should the need arise for such things as interop, etc.

You guys are smart, and you don't need me at all. Once I get the clearance I can tell you more particulars about the new system.
