To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone happen to have a list of custom audio tones? (PTT etc). There used to be a great list over at Communications Support but I didn't save a copy. I could have sworn some were listed here as well but I'm not turning anything up. The default ones are so.... blah!

I've customized some of the tones in my PD982 handhelds, also in my UHF X1p. I set the volume of these tones to be linked to the volume control.

You define these tone up in the User Defined Tone part of the programming under Common. You enable these under Conventional>General>UI Indication to enable these tones in place of the default tones. I'm recalling all of this from memory so this might not be totally correct.

I like the Motorola Talk Permit Tone (TPT) used on Moto's P25 handhelds. It's similar to the old NEXTEL DirectConnect chirp but at a lower frequency. For the old NEXTEL DirectConnect tones, I programmed the PTT chirp, incoming DirectConnect call double beep, and the short end peep heard on the end of a received DirectConnect transmission. I also programmed the Motorola MOTOTRBO TPT in case I decide to use it.

Talk Permit Tone (TPT) in Hytera programming set to Motorola TPT (see below).
Voice End Tone in Hytera programming set to NEXTEL End Tone (see below).
I left everything else set at the default.
Analog and digital TPT delays are set at 300ms.

I had to make some audio recordings of these tones and then do some analysis of tone frequencies and durations to know what to program in the Hyteras.

Motorola P25 TPT: I like this one the best for a TPT.
910Hz 30ms
0Hz (silence) 20ms
910Hz 30ms
0Hz (silence) 20ms
910Hz 50ms

NEXTEL DirectConnect Talk Permit Tone (TPT): This is the familiar NEXTEL PTT chirp.
1800Hz 30ms
0Hz (silence) 20ms
1800Hz 30ms
0Hz (silence) 20ms
1800Hz 50ms

NEXTEL Incoming DirectConnect call: This is the Dee-Deet tone, heard at the start of an incoming DC call.
2300Hz 90ms
0Hz (silence) 90ms
2300Hz 90ms

NEXTEL DC End Tone: This is the short peep heard at the end of receiving a DirectConnect transmission.
2300Hz 40ms

Motorola's MOTOTRBO Talk Permit Tone (TPT) consists of 4 tones of 40ms duration, with no silence in between tones. It makes a warble type sound. I don't remember the tone frequencies off the top of my head right now.

Good luck.

Thanks! I had the 910/20 one in my radio already but had lost track of the others.

Much appreciated!

CPS will round these to the nearest ten but, to me, this sounds exactly like the MOTOTRBO TPT:

1569 Hz 40 ms
1046 Hz 40 ms
1569 Hz 40 ms
1317 Hz 40 ms

Those are the exact MOTOTRBO Talk Permit Tone (TPT) tones. I couldn't remember the 4 tone freqs off the top of my head.

The CPS will round them to:
1570Hz 40ms
1050Hz 40ms
1570Hz 40ms
1320Hz 40ms

I'm looking for the incoming Group call tone(s) and voice end tone(s). The incoming Private Call tone(s) would be nice too.

I've heard these tones from Motorola MOTOTRBO radios but I'm looking for the actual tone freq(s) and duration(s). A recording would be enough for me to analyze the tone freqs and durations.

I think the incoming Group Call sounds like 3 of the 4 tones in the TPT. I recall it sounds something like 1050Hz/1320Hz/1570Hz. Not sure about the duration of each tone. I need a recording of the tones to analyze it.
