• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm considering purchasing from Gigaparts the Hytera X1P or PD782G as my first DMR HT. I believe the only difference between these two radios is that X1P contains Bluetooth. Am I correct? I'm leaning towards the X1P due to it's small size. However, I noticed that Hytera does not offer a fully-protective case for the X1P, as is available for the PD782G...https://www.gigaparts.com/leather-case-swivel-for-higher-capacity-battery.html. I have searched other places and have yet to locate a fully protective case for the X1P. It's very disappointing that Hytera doesn't offer such a case for the X1P and will be a deal-breaker for me. Any ideas on a case for the X1P?

Case

I rarely buy the manufacturer's case. Those made by Raine are very durable, and I have one for each of my PD782 radios (VHF and UHF). They are not made for specific radios, but there are many sizes and they last better than other brands I have tried, including manufacturer originals.

Nobody I know with an X1P uses a case. They’re quite durable.

Will someone please provide the screen dimensions of the X1P...diagonal distance, height and width...in mm please? This is for ordering custom screen protectors.

43 mm w x 40 h, but the top of the display dips down a little where the Hytera label is.

I use Raine stuff too, met the owner at IWCE years ago, we carried his product when we had a paging business. I had a pager case the velcro wore out.

I keep my UHF X1p in one of my front pants pockets when I carry it around with me, practically all the time. I use the optional skinny UHF antenna with it. It fits comfortably enough that I often forget I have it with me.

I don't know anybody with an X1p that uses a case. As Kirk said, they are quite durable.

A PD782G is a brick compared to an X1p. I've owned a few PD782Gs and recently traded them up to the PD982.

My friend who works for Hytera insists the 782 is still the best radio they make. More rugged than the X1P. To this day, when they sell a radio system to a Gov't agency, the 782 is the radio most buy.

I also use the X1p without case. I cut down a brotect airglass screen protector from something else (had a spare lying about) and otherwise don't worry about it.
I have a belt clip for it (the hytera slot in one) but also put a small loop through the hand strap so I can carabiner it to things.
Have used it in some pretty nasty environments and its pretty well made. I also got it for its small size.
