• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Recently picked up one of these radios.. and noticed the bandsplit is 440-480 mhz.


I am wondering if there is any way to get it lower.. I tossed 435.000 mhz into the programming software, and it works. 430mhz does not thou.

Anyone know a workaround to get lower frequencies into this? I don't plan on TX'ing with the lower band, just monitoring.

Also if anyone knows any other neat tricks for this radio, please let me know.

From what I hear there is a way to enable Front Panel Programming (like the XTS), but I don't know how...

To answer your question, the hardware in the radio can only go so low... It seems like 430 is the limit. If you try and force it, you could muck up the radio (i.e. opening the synthesizer lock) and turn it into a brick...

The F40 is a great radio - built like a brick and can do almost anything... You won't regret buying it, I have two and they are my favorite. :wink:

That is where the F40GS-1 comes in. It covers 400-435 mhz and sometimes can be found on the internet cheap. The GS-1 is spec'd to 430 but will go close to 435 mhz. I have one left of these after cannibalizing the other one. It is odd that the F43GS will go from 400 to 470 IIRC and the U82 ham rigs wll also do it.
