Default New IDAS equipment

I hear via the grape vine that Icom will soon be releasing its 2nd generation IDAS products with OTAP, color screen, bluetooth etc.

Has anyone else heard this and have any more info perhaps?

ICOM is not doing dmr at this point!!, however the market share is going that way and it might be in their best interest, (HINT). Kenwood however is doing dmr, and maybe available in certain markets. Its is reflective in the new product line. Icom and kenwood have partnered on other projects so this might not be all that far off, for the market share. Keep your eyes open you might be surprised.

Hopefully it's better than the first gen idas equipment. I spent a long time working with that gear and frankly was never all that impressed with it. In fact I found it to be HIGHLY problematic.

Could be interesting if Icom and Kenwood work together. They both have buildings in the Redmond, WA area, almost across the street from one another.

Await the cool new gear from IWCE.

Yes you are correct, Icom is in Kirkland while (JVC/Kenwood) Zetron across the street is Redmond. Baseball throw away from each other. I had them backwards.

I'll be at IWCE in two weeks. I'll try to get one when I'm there. Likely someone will be able to pull it off the Icom site and post it here quicker than that.

New IDAS Series | Icom Inc

looks like this radio will have type c and type D trunking, should be very interesting indeed. Now for the big question, what does it cost...

I see the Type C trunking protocol and type D multi-site trunking protocol are a licence upgrade, I wonder if the Bluetooth and other features will be a standard feature or a licence upgrade too?

The radio is quite similar in specs with the Kenwood NX-5000.

Going to be interesting to see what the prices will be for the radios and the licence upgrades

Just at the trade shows. Nice radios, modern looking. I didn't get to try them out, though.
