R70

Hello all,
I just received a second hand R70 from a friend in Europe. Unfortunately it did not arrive the way it left him. The VFO knob is off. Easy fix, but my question is...is there something I need to adjust inside for my 110 power here in the USA. It has a switch on the back for 230. I put that switch in off position and hooked my power plug to the wall and all I get is a loud humming sound. I have since disconnected the power from the radio after shooting a short video of what it's doing to show my friend I got it from. Any ideas would be appreciated on this issue. Never used this receiver before and never got one that was in service in another country. So maybe I am just missing something.

Thanks all for the replies. I found and downloaded the manual today so I will be looking at it later today when I am off work. I think it is definitely power related. Thanks again for the replies.
