I hope this is the right forum for this question.
I am monitoring an NXDN truncked system (https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=9178). The R30 has two NXDN options: NXDN and NXDN-VN. Is there a reasonable assumption regarding the default mode? In other words, if neither mode is specified can I assume the correct mode is NXDN, and not -VN?
I’ve had a heck of a time trying to find any reference to -VN on-line.
Thanks.

Hello,

It is just different terms used for the same thing. Icom is using the bandwidth of the signal and RadioReference is using the data rate. NXDN or NXDN-N (Narrow) or NXDN 6.25 KHz is the same as NXDN 9600. NXDN-VN (Very Narrow) or NXDN 3.125 KHz is the same as NXDN 4800.

I'm pretty sure that you can scan a range of frequencies. Then look at the rxlog on the microsd card and the mode will be listed for each received transmission.

That will tell you if it's 9600 or 4800.
