The Gurnee Police and Lake and Kenosha County Sheriffs are quite familiar with Mr. Kelly. This is his 3-4th time getting caught. Its been going on for years.

The Media takes any kind of unauthorized access and lumps it in with hacking. Ray just programmed one of his many radios and screwed with mall security this time. The Lake county Sheriffs EDACS corrections talkgroup and the Kenosha Co Sheriff's P25 repeater.

To the corporate media, any use of technology to do something illegal is "hacking". I am sure a jury of 12 would probably see this as hacking.

To the corporate media, anything for communications is a "cell tower" regardless of it being LMR, cellular, WiFi, or broadcast. It's all "cell towers" to them.

Keep in mind, the average American's attention span is reduced to about 60-90 seconds as they are bombarded with cat videos, WorldStar HipHop, and other trivial garbage on Anti-Social media, so the "traditional" media has to compete with this and create their content accordingly.

No one wants to spend 5 minutes reading a bunch of technical jargon they don't understand when the next episode of Empire is coming on.

Not to stir the pot or anything but the word "hacking" pretty much means any circumvention or achievement of something other than it's intended use. Believe it or not, but "hacking" predates computers, and actually got it's start with manipulation with telephony systems. This guy didn't achieve his goal by way of an SQL injection or anything of the sort, but he did have to know the right combination of PL tone, input frequency, and DTMF tones to execute. To the public at large, that's a hack. And, in fact this "hack" is very much along the lines of what telephony hacking involved in it's day.

The folks on the Hamsexy Facebook group pretty much are calling this guy a hero. A few had the common sense to see this guy is a loser, but most are saying about how awesome he was...even if he committed a felony that directly affects/shames the hobby. Some even donated money to his jail funds. 0_o not cool.

No one is calling Ray a Hero. He is talented his radio abilities that's about it . He has an addiction problem and other issues.. No one there condones his actions. Very few did send him a few bucks last time. Not this time...

Ray is not a hero and nobody has said such.

Ray is a person with many addictions and needs help. Hopefully this time he'll get the help he needs to lead a normal life.
