• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I purchased a used Bendix King DPHX5102X through the RR classifieds with the intent of using it on some local P25 ham repeaters. I purchased the programming software and cable for the radio through a Relm dealer.

I am able to program the radio for my local ham repeaters and it has great RX. However, the radio will not transmit. The red transmit light does not light up nor do I get a "low batt" warning on the radio's display. A frequency counter placed nearby the radio detects to RF when the radio is keyed up.

It's my understanding the radio's previous owner used it as a scanner.

My question. Before I send the radio in for service, is there anything in the programming software (that I should doublecheck or that is easily located within the radio) that would act as a switch to globally inhibit TX? FWIW: I did RTFMs and checked the Relm website, but could find nothing related to my problem.

As said, RX is fine. Just no TX.

Does the PH cover the ham bands? I don't remember if the range is from 148 to 174 or 136 or 138 to 174. The King I have will show an out of range frequency on the display but will not transmit on it.

I guess I need to research this, but I did not know there were P25 ham repeaters. I thought they were DStar and one other protocol, but not P25. We just put PL on our ham machines 4 years ago here so I haven't paid much attention to digital ham products.

Mine is the new model that will go down into the ham bands without software modification. RX is fine on the ham bands.

A new battery is the next thing to try. Thanks!

On the EPH/LPH models I've used since 1983 the red light displays for less than a second when the PTT is used and the battery is low. There is also a noise that sounds when the battery is low. It can still be programmed with a low battery.

One Bendix-King item I find very useful is the clamshell battery holder. It uses (9) AA 1.5 volt alkaline batteries. Good to have on hand if all your NiMH battery(s) run low. It is also good to use if you have a problem so you can isolate it to either the radio or the battery. I store a lot of AA batteries in my house and if the power is off for an extended period I can continue to run the BK.

Do you mind sharing how much you paid for the DPH? I've been looking for quite some time and they have been more than what I can pay. I'm hoping that they come down in price to the $500-700 range. I may get interested at that point. I'm not holding my breath!

Does the radio xmit on FM wideband analog ham repeaters, just not on P25? Or does it not transmit at all?

I'd check programming to make sure you have the correct modes (and frequencies!) for both transmit and receive. I've made a lot of dumb programming mistakes so you don't have to... <g>
