Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello. While browsing around my PCConfig software tonight I noticed there was an option to enable a talk permit tone. I selected it but there was no TPT when I keyed up. Does anyone have any experience with programming this TPT or is this only available on trunked systems? Is there a way to "hack" it like you can on the HT1000 and XTS5000?

Thanks!

We used it on our 5100's, but that was on a trunked system. It got annoying, so we shut it off.

I'm pretty sure it's a trunk thing anyway. It's telling you that the central controller has assignrd a channel, and you radio is ready. That info doesn't happen on a conventional system.

The EFJ 51xx/53xx/VP600 radios also allow you to program the TPT on conventional as well as trunking.

Anyone with any ideas?

Do you know how I would go about programming/activating that?

Thanks!

You already found it, but on the second page of the per system settings, click the check box next to "Talk Permit Tone".

In the "Duration" box set a reasonable delay time, I have mine set to 0.2 seconds.

Now if you are using multiple systems, make sure under your Zone/Channel assignments that you are using the correct system.

Quick explanation of how it works, which differs from trunking protocols:
When the PTT is pushed the radio starts transmitting but without audio. On analog the MDC Pre ID will transmit if programmed as such during this timeframe. If set for a relatively long duration the radio will be transmitting for the entire time, but the microphone is not active. Once the time is up the radio emits the TPT and activates the microphone. On digital it works the same, obviously without transmitting any programmed MDC.

The reason I bring this up is that if you accidentally have the duration set really long then when you tried it you could have saw it transmitting and dismissed it as not working without waiting for the full "Duration" time. I'm assuming that's not the case, but a possible option.

I have 4 radios with a few channels set up this way just for fun and they all work fine.

Hopefully that will help some.
