• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Since there is no specific forum for Maxon Radios Im asking here.

After learning that my old PCs were to fast to run my Maxon Dos software I was able to find a 91mhz laptop that now detects my programing cable and detects my radio, BUT Im unable to read my radio.

This is what I have:
1) Maxon SMP4004C Software (bought legally)
2) Maxon Programming Cable
3) Maxon SP-120 UHF Radio

The software detects the programming cable "chip" and detects the radio when its on and off, but it doesnt reads the radio.

I follow the instructions on the first picture and then I go to the second picture where Im stuck (RED light is on) and it ask to push the MONITOR button to start and nothing happens, if I turn off the radio the software goes back to the main menu.

reply for Maxon handheld program

Hi... Im michael...

M lucky that I found this site .. I'm a technician here ...working abroad in Saudi Arabia...I'm from Philiippines...

We repair these old handheld radios... We got Aerotron, Repco and Maxon... if u want forums for these kind of radios''u will find it hard....

I tried and experienced programing this DOS based software for Maxon handheld radios...

First thing is'''... these software and the machine that ur using is compatible and have tried programming once before ? And programmed other maxon radios? Cus if not... u probably need the new versions for ur software and a windows desktop..

2nd is... check ur cable interface to the radio...

3rd is.. check the handheld,s monitor button if it still working'''...

4. Pls have a good battery for maxon, dnt program if it is lowbat...

5. On the graphics uve posted'''... after the first flash blinked.... and the Red Led is lit... (continious light)
Press and release the monitor button again..
Next thing will happen if the radio is the correct model u have selected and successfully pressed until step 5. ,then the software will read the data of ur radio handheld....
6. If problem persist, try to check the digital board of the radio... try and get a good digital board to check and confirm that ur digital board is ok''''

I will be glad if u solve this prob and reply me .. and share me thoughts on troubleshooting this..

I'm an Electronic engineer...want to find answer for my problem'''
It has a double beep error telling me that it s an PLL problem....
