New Transmission Type?

I apologize if this is not the proper forum for this.

Our fair started last week and last year I found their frequencies that were in the clear. This year the transmissions seem to be using something to mask their transmissions. It's an mp3 that you have to download to listen. If anyone can recognize this 'sound' I would appreciate it.

It's digital. Sounds sort of like NXDN, but I could be wrong. Likely rental radios they are using, or they just upgraded since last year.

If it is NXDN, the only way to decode it is using an external connection to a computer.

That doesn't sound like any NXDN/IDAS that I have ever heard.... not be a longshot. Seems to me that it's more like an analog signal with some type of digital scrambling on it.

It is some type of TDMA format. Maybe the input to a TRBO repeater.

That's what it sounds like to me. They are using the same frequencies as last year so I'm not sure they rentals.

The freqs are 453.9875, 456.1875, 458.6625, 459.2250

Someone suggested it could be simplex mototrbo.

It's TRBO simplex.

I concur, sounds like TRBO simplex, which if I understand won't be decoded by
DSD as it does not handle simplex or repeater input format.

DSD 1.6 (Windows) decodes simplex TRBO fine. I've done it with my radios here.

Thanks everyone for the help. I was in the Fair office today and saw their base station which is a Motorola and above that was a list of the different channels they use (I presume each frequency is a channel).

On simplex, it'll have that sputtering motorboat sound.
