Standard Communications marine radiophones

Hi, I live in Italy and would like to know more about some Standard Radio models (like SR-C801S for example)
All the "Standard Radio" (SR) marine 2 way radios (also called "transceivers") were made in the USA around 1965-70.
This is a request from a friend, he told me they were exported too but, as far as I can understand, they are very hard to be found nowadays.
I would kindly ask you to help me to know where to search, if they were good quality or not and so on!
I did find a top 10 list of brands but there is no mention of Standard!

I believe the SR series and all Standard radios of that vintage were made in Japan. Standard had a US address near me and several people I knew worked there in the 1970s installing crystals and aligning radios for customers.

In my opinion the quality was very high and Standard is still a major supplier of marine and LMR radios in the US today.

As far as I have beenable to see in the web they were originally in California, then had a location or office in Wilmington DE...and from some marine stuff news their products were listed in comparison with other 1965-70 radiophones.

I live near Los Angeles and Standard Communications is currently in Torrance, CA near Los Angeles. As long as I can remember back to the late 1960s and early 1970s Standard was always in or near Torrance, CA and that is where all their shipments from Japan would go to get quality control checked then shipped to dealers. Their land mobile radios would have crystals installed and get aligned to frequency for specific customers there and they also did repairs.

I am not aware of any Standard radios that were made in the US but they might have made some radio accessories like power supplies.

Many thanks again for your kindness and further info about Standard old stuff!
I have just now sent your reply to my friend who lives near San Francisco.
I do think that the main reason of the difficulty to find these old marine radiophones is due to the...elapsed time....and the severity of the ambient where they were supposed to work!
I do still deal with multiband radios (Sony and Zenith) and car radios and I think that there cannot have been a...superior quality in this brand.....if it was so it would have not taken too much time to hve all their manufacturing secrets...copied!

Standard was in Wilmington, California, near Torrance. All their radios of the 70's era were crystal controlled. Now that the last and best crystal manufactures have gone away from making crystals for two way radios, the Standard radios will be of limited use.

BTW Standard did make there own crystals here in California. Frequency Management was the Standard Crystal company in the 90's. They made good crystals for a lot of different radios and repeaters. Some are still in operation.
