Default Motorola Astro P25

Okay stupid question....
Where I live we have a few backup mixed mode motorola repeaters. When I key the system with the astro personality I do not hear anything on the receive side... am I supposed to be able to hear a repeater tail? I see that I am getting a return because the red LED indicator on top flashes but I hear nothing. I am 99% sure I have the right receive NAC code...

Nope, no noise. That's just how it is, I can't explain it, our NXDN conventional system is the same way.

It's digital. No background noise. You won't hear an open repeater or squelch tail.
