• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I saw a post a while ago saying to Scanner could get LTR passport. Is this still true? I see in Michigan under Kent county System
Type: LTR Passport
System Voice: Analog

Since the Voice says Analog does that mean a Pro-97 or newer Uniden like the BC246T can pick this up?

There is currently NO scanner made that can trunktrack LTR Passport. Currently you must have an tapped scanner, and have LTRTrunk and LTRDump software to do it on an PC. There are some research projects in the works at GRE to try to do an Passport LTR capable scanner. But right now the priority on R&D is on an 700 MHz Trunking scanner by Christmas 2007 for the Radio Shack name to compete with the Unidens. If we are lucky maybe they will surprise us and have the LTR Passport capabilty done for it too. Currently you must program all the repeaters on the system as conventional FM/FMN with NO delays and monitor this way. Its a PITA with the Data Bursts every 2 to 4 seconds... But its all we have for now.;)

I really wouldn't believe that source in the future if I were you.

The protocol isn't that difficult to implement if someone wanted to. I've been unable to locate anything legal that says a manufacturer can't use the protocol without a license but Trident Microsystems seems to require it to be licensed before it can be used.

What Trident wants you to do is buy their repeater controllers. That takes care of the software license. Anything else...good luck. You have to remember that Trident got their start by reverse engineering EFJ's LTR protocol and then selling improved repeater trunking controllers which, I might add IMHO were superior to EFJ's.
