• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have been trying to monitor the trunking network of a local business which I believe is using a type II system. I got a list of the talk groups from an insider and programed them in with a list of all the known freqs. I have the modes set to MOT and scan through them and I here the audio and the correct talk group shows in the bottom but no control channel it would appear that I only have the voice channels. Some will do the machine gun noise thing but not really start trunking. I have also tried to search the entire range for control channels which I put in a lone bank with all my talk groups to see if this is the one. Any hints would be appreciated.

In line 2 where the voice channel usually is the same freq shows on line 3 where the control channel usually is. Sometimes it will hang on a station and flash CNTRL and other talk group ids but won't scan off of them....

How far away are you from this business? That may be a factor.

When your radio flashes CNTRL, does that imply it is searching for the CC?

"Zero" the squelch and see if it will lock on to the CC.

Good luck

Is there a chance that this may be type I or type II hybried. but this would not make since that the talk group are showing up with who they are supposed to be. It just seems that all the channels are control channels.

Could it be an LTR system? No controller but ID's show. If MOT II then check each freq, one at a time, for controller data. If it's a MOT I then sometimes 4 out of 5 channels could be controllers. The type of scanner?? Post more info w/ your location. May get better answers. Eager to help.
