Hi All, I am currently looking into buying my 1st scanner. I am looking at the functions carefully and I have a few questions about trunking.
Firstly I am in Ireland (Europe) so I am not too sure if trunking is used that much over here because there might not be as much traffic - that's my 1st question.
I am tied between the Bearcat 785xlt and a Icom IC-R1500 - my basic requirements are portability, and picking up as many different channels as possible. I see in some places the icom is described as a reciever not a scanner - does this suggest the icom will not scan but has to be tuned manually?
I see that the Uniden has trunking in the specifications but the Icom hasn't, however it does have references to trunking via PC. Does this mean that the system can be programmed via PC and will work (trunk) when not connected to the PC or does it have to be connected at all times for trunking to function. (presuming that I need trunking over here)
Will both of these units pick up the commerical air and marine bands - I know this might seem to be a simple question to some but I am new to this.
