Any new info on this?

It seems very odd that we don't have any more info on this if they expect it to be fully depolyed by the end of this year?

Gonna be a busy time in the near future....
Lexington has awarded a contract for a new P-25 TRS....

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Awards Cassidian Communications Contract for P25 Land Mobile Radio System

Was it a simple award? I did not see where there was a bidding process, and the specs for the system?

Would Lexington-Fayette not have to have a bidding process for the system, or did I miss that portion
of the news already?

800 MHZ. What will become of their entire list of VHF and UHF freqs? Join VHF and UHF with the 800 MHZ ? Portables and Mobile capability?

Why 800 MHZ in Lexington-Fayette, with the dense building population and also a location known for it's remote locations.

This is September. I agree...How are they going to finish this by the end of the year?

I am not discontent, but why does Lexington - Fayette continously prefer a Texas based company?

And all the towers that will have to go up, UNLESS....they use some of the towers that the Fire Department has.

800 MHZ requires more towers ,or antenna locations ( buildings for example ), than VHF & UHF, and is more expensive than conventional VHF and UHF LMR. Geeze, that jurisdiction must be a cash cow.

800 MHZ bounces off of a tree leaf and buildings, and does not do well inside structures. I have no idea, but from my perspective...it seems like a bad idea. I do not see why they just do not keep what they have.

Interesting FCC filing. It is only for control stations, no repeaters or mobiles. Some of the frequencies are way to close to use in a single site combiner. I thought that this was going to be a simulcast system, not multicast?

Any update on this new system?

I have been told by someone from "within" that the towers/antennas are now up and that he thought radios are now being installed in some cars. I think he told me there are over 500 cars to do. System switchover will possibly occur later this year. My source works for the PD and should be able to provide more info later now that he knows I am interested in when this new system goes "live".

Unit Charlie... Are you hearing anything from the media side on this?

New info added to Ky DB:
851.2875/NAC 41F/Sys 41E/WACN: 92684
851-0625 (41E)
851.5375 (41E)
851.9875 (41E)
852.2500 (41E)
No audio on any of these freqs, but there is carrier with IDs indicating SysID 41E and the CC indicates a Site ID of 2 which, according to the FCC info is the Russell Cave Tower....

My PSR 500 tracks it well... They have been on TGIDs 100, 101 and 102 reading the most inane test messages.... "Clear on the cheese...", came one Officer's reply to the test before passing the TX and RX...
So far the CCs have been 851.0625 (CC1) and 851.5625 (CC5)... Program all freqs (851.06250/851.28750/851.31250/851.53750/851.56250/ 851.72500/851.75000/851.98750/852.03750/852.25000/852.33750/ 852.53750/852.56250/852.75000/852.78750/853.28750/853.41250/
853.53750/853.56250/853.78750/853.82500), set your System Type to P-25 Auto and make a Wild Card TGID (so everything will come across your speaker) and you should be able to hear them pretty well.... Hopefully they won't encrypt everything and disenfranchise us taxpayers!

Encryption

I have been told by somebody in the radio business that they will ultimately use encryption. With luck, that is wrong.

I am a ham radio Volunteer Examiner here in Lexington. Last night, a recently retired Lexington police officer, who was taking his amateur exam, was telling us the new system will be totally encrypted. I sure hope this information is not correct. Is anyone else hearing anything ?
