Default TK-830 & TK-730 Programming

I have a TK-830 & TK-730, and am trying to program them. I have the appropriate software and cable. When connected to my (Old) computer, it will not read from the radios. I made sure that the program was set to the correct com port, but no luck. Ideas?

When powing up the radio, you have to hold the OPT key while turning on the power. Is this a full control head, or a 2 digit head?

The 830 is the newer black style with full txt display. The 730 is a grey radio with just a 2 digit display.

It's been a while, but if I recall correctly, the OPT key on the full head is going to be the key closest to the CH change knob. On the basic head, it's going to be the bottom key to the right of the display. When you power up the radio holding this button, the display on the full head will read PROGRAM, and on the basic head will be something like PG. If I didn't remember the key correctly, just try the other keys using the same method until you get that on the screen.

Default Kenwood tk-730 programming - need software

I just bought a pair (730/830) in dual band mode.

I ordered a USB programming cable off Amazon and need the correct software to program my head.

Does anyone know if this is free and if so where can I get it?

Thanks!

Nick
