To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Have checked that no issue there. The radio tech reprogrammed the radio a few weeks ago and I think this was the first time I used it at night since. It is fine until I turn the head lights on. mix of LED and Halogen lights but they were all installed before reprogramming just wondering what he might have changed. it will take a little time to get him back.

Has there been any change of equipment, on the dozer? New alternator? New broadcast reciver? Has anything changed location?

If the tech reprogrammed it perhaps he changed some channel settings to CSQ which is causing some interference. Also, check the Radio's ground.

the only change is the reprogramming. I have a call in to the tech but will check ground again. It goes to squelch on every channel but only when headlights are on. Thank you for all the replies

Could be the LED noise.
If the radio is programmed to use PL/DPL tones on receive, then it could be that the mic hang up isn't working. If the mic is in the hook and the "mon" light goes off and this still happens, then it's likely set up for carrier squelch.
If it's is carrier squelch, the squelch could be set too loose.

If it is carrier squelch and the cause is the LED lamps, adjusting the squelch level -might- fix it, or it may require changing the way the LED's are wired.

I try to remember to run all the accessories on a vehicle after I've done any service or install work. That usually means lights, PA, siren, etc. With more and more public safety vehicles using LED lightning, it's becoming a bigger risk. Most higher end lights are designed to not create the noise, or at least not dump it back into the electrical system.

Would be interesting to know if the LED's are powered off the 24v -> 12v converter, or if they wired them to the 24 volt system. Usually LED's will operate over a pretty wide voltage, so it's probably not necessary.

OK, so probably not coming through the power circuit.

What you could try is turning the LED's on and try disconnecting the antenna from the back of the radio and see if the noise goes away. That's the sort of testing the installer will appreciate.
