• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi guys. I'm pretty new to the whole two way radio world and i have some questions and need some info. I recently purchased a Kenwood Nexedge NX700 VHF and USB programming cable and am awaiting its arrival in the mail. What software do I need to program the channels in the radio? Am i able to enter in the frequencies manually directly on the radio? Or does it need to be hooked up to a computer via a USB cable. Can i program it to communicate with the Vertex Standard 454 radios i have? Can i program the NX700 as a police scanner? Thanks in advance!

You will need Kenwood KPG-111DN software to program the radio. Version 5.21 is the latest release.

If the radio is new, you'll need the newer versions of software to program it. You cannot program it properly without the software.

You will need to install KPG-111DN software on your computer. The USB cable will plug into the RJ-45 microphone jack on the front of the radio. Radio will need to be powered up.

As for working with the VX-454, it will only if you have the VHF version. You will not be able to talk between the NX-700, which is VHF and a UHF VX-454.

You can program it as a scanner, but it won't be a good one. Scan on these radios is slower than what a consumer scanner will have. It'll only receive analog and NXDN and only from 136-174MHz.

If you are looking for a scanner, then get a scanner, you'll be happier in the long run.

Thanks very much for the info mmckenna. The V454's I have are the VHF versions operating from 134-174 MHz, so I will be able to communicate with my NX700 then correct? Do I also need the USB cable to program the frequencies I want into them?
