• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a Kenwood 8180 that I really don't have room for, I read where the 8180 has an optional remote head you can use with it. Can someone tell me how hard these remote heads are to install in the regular radio and where one might purchase one ?
Thanks

Any Kenwood dealer should be able to get a kit for you.

I have found the ribbon cable to be a little tricky to get to seat!

Anyone happen to know if Kenwood sells just the ribbon cable and little plastic pieces? Model number or part number if they do?

I don't have the part number but Kenwood does sell the kit to convert the 7180/8180 to remote head. As far as I know, they don't sell the radios already converted. Any Kenwood dealer can get you the number or you can look it up on Kenwood USA. Just download the PDF of the sales flyer.
With the ribbon cable you will need to make sure that it doesn't get reversed when you assemble the kit. Your best bet will be to test the radio after assembly before it's installed.

I know, old post, but anyone looking for info:

Adding labor code L-968 to the order will have Kenwood assemble a new TK-x180 with the KRK-10 for $42 list. But really, it isn't hard.

KRK-10, as stated. List price is $105.00, includes a 23 foot separation cable.
This is the same separation kit used by the NX-x00/x01 series radios.
