Default Ship Plotter question

I'm using Ship Plotter for AIS and it works fine with Google Earth but the program itself doesn't work very well unless I'm missing something. The maps never load. The same goes for Plane Plotter. No maps or radar. I think my free trial of SP is about to expire anyway. Is there another game in town that's a bit more modern?

Did you calibrate the maps?
