While my radio is off being repaired I wanted to find out how others have their 396 scanners programmed. How do you have your radio broken up into groups????

I've been importing the local county trunks into systems witht he underlying groups broke out by Fire, Police, and other. That way it easy to use the quick keys to turn things on and off. Then for conventional freqs, I've made a few specifics like, emergency and MSP.

I am mainly interested in police so I have Baltimore County in the main #1 bank. I then broke down the TG's into precincts using the 0-9 keys.

Quick key 1 - Franklin & Pikesville (my home)
Quick key 2 - Parkville (my office)
Quick key 3 - Wilkens
Quick key 4 - Whitemarsh
etc...

Hope that makes sense.

My primary is AA County... and then primarily fire department.

Within that county (quick key 1):
1 - Fire dispatch/local alarm TGs
2 - Fireground TGs (major incidents)
3 - Fire Administrative TGs
4 - BWI Fire TGs
5 - EOC TGs
6 - EMRC TGs
7 - Fire Special Ops
8 -
9 - AAPD Main TGs
0 - AAPD Aux. TGs

Other groups without a quick key:
(just labelled and grouped - most individual TGs are kept locked out)
Annapolis Police
Sheriff Dept.
Other (odds and ends)
Public Works
Encrypted TGs
Detention Center
AAPD Special Ops

I've set up Howard County in group 2, Baltimore City in group 3, etc. in more or less the same layout. I have Baltimore City EMS all in one group so I can lock them out and listen to just the dispatch and fireground channels, police in one lockablegroup, etc.

It's really up to what you want to hear/don't want to hear.
